About the funding programme
The Export Initiative Environmental Protection (EXI) supports German green tech companies in bringing their technologies to international markets. It funds projects that promote environmental solutions worldwide and open up new market opportunities.
The funding programme addresses the growing global demand for German expertise, products and services in the GreenTech sector. The aim is to promote the global application of environmental technologies and innovations from Germany, thereby strengthening both environmental protection and economic development.
What is funded?
The focus is on projects that combine environmental impact with economic potential. Through the international transfer of technology and expertise, the EXI helps to improve environmental standards while enhancing the competitiveness of German green tech companies.
Funding is provided for projects that test innovative solutions under real-world conditions on-site. This includes capital expenditure such as the construction or installation of pilot plants, as well as training courses, workshops and studies in preparation for the project. These approaches are often combined to achieve lasting results.
EXI focuses on key areas such as the circular economy and resource management, water and wastewater technology, off-grid green hydrogen and fuel cell technologies, and innovative cross-cutting technologies.
Who is eligible for funding?
Eligible applicants include businesses, as well as organisations such as associations, foundations, universities and research institutions – provided they have their headquarters or a branch in Germany. The funding programme focuses in particular on small and medium-sized enterprises with innovative approaches that require support with internationalisation.
